The beginning

The history of Canada Goose started when Sam Tick founded Canada Goose Holdings in 1957. However, he created it under the name Metro Sportswear Ltd. The Polish-Jewish immigrant started the sportswear brand after spending years working as a cutter in other factories. After that, the brand made woolen vests, raincoats, snowmobile suits, and other functional outerwear.

Going Further

In 1972, Tick’s son-in-law. In other words, David Reiss, joined the company and eventually became CEO. Metro Sportswear expanded to 50 employees in the early 1980s. After that, in 1985, David Reiss acquired a majority equity stake in the company. In the following years, the company produced clothing under its own brand “Snow Goose”. After that, In the early 1990s, Metro started selling its clothes in Europe. But the name Snow Goose was already in use in Europe. Therefore, Metro sold its European products under the name Canada Goose.
